    •  Generally, from America. (19+ / 0-)

Bought legally in Southwestern border cities and smuggled over.  I'm sensing a pattern here.  This country has become the world's arsenal.  We needn't be.

In Mexico, the NarcoTraffickers have guns not b/c of the USA.

They have guns b/c the Mexican political establishment wants them to have guns.

Mexican Governor got Millions in Drug Cash, DEA Says

        http://latino.foxnews.com/...

U.S. drug agents have evidence that cartel leaders paid millions to a Mexican border state governor and other figures in Mexico's former ruling party in exchange for political influence, according to a court filing in Texas.

Confidential informants told Drug Enforcement Administration investigators that leaders of the Zetas and Gulf cartels made payments to Institutional Revolutionary Party members including Tomas Yarrington, who served as governor of Tamaulipas state in 1999-2004, according to the complaint filed in U.S. District Court in San Antonio, Texas.

The affidavit says the DEA also has obtained ledgers documenting millions of dollars in payments to Yarrington's representatives.

Yarrington declined to comment when contacted by The Associated Press on Friday.

Heck, the current president of Mexico has/had close ties to the governor in question.

If the US were to ban guns, you'd be creating a two-tier society.

The security detail of big city mayors or state lawmwakers would have access to guns.

Meanwhile, the struggling retiree who challenged the Chicago gun ban would be out of luck.

That's not what we should want.

That's precisely what Mexico has today.

along the border. countries that don't share a border with america have a much easier time restricting small arms importation.

    •  From American gun shows (6+ / 0-)

actually.  The Mexican government is furious with the US for our failure to control our drug and gun markets.  Quite right too.  Bad enoug we screw up our own country.

      •  Where are the dead Canadians? (0+ / 0-)

Shouldn't Canadians be shooting each other with weapons smuggled in from the US?

Quebec borders Vermont, which issues concealed carry permits to 16-year-olds.

        3 provinces border gun-loving Montana.

        •  Hmm... (0+ / 0-)

what WAS that expression about a foolish consistency?

The point is that the Mexican (and Chicago's) efforts at gun control are fatally undermined by imports from the US, in one instance by large organizations who can smuggle into a weakly protected border and proceed against an institutionally weak state, or alternatively by individuals who can just waltz on in with no controls whatever.  Canada on the other hand has a robust enforcement mechanism and no institutions dedicated to mayhem.

For all I know Afghanistan has super tough gun laws on the books too, but the reality is a wee bit different.
