  •  The mormon shift is interesting (7+ / 0-)

and I wonder if it is related to waning membership numbers. Despite their membership claims, I find it hard to believe they're bucking the overall trend of people being less interested in church. Especially when they ask such a financial burden.

    •  Mormons started to do outreach (6+ / 0-)

a few years back with their elementary kids.  If I understand correctly, that whole door knocking thing their boys do at age 19 or 20 has very low probability of success.

Indoctrination starts at a very young age, so why not try to get more young children to walk through the door.  Their youth actively invite others to attend church with them.

I know this because my kid was targeted.  Mormon mommy asked me if they could pick up my then 6 year old to attend church.  I politely declined.  When she later discovered we are atheist, it got bad.  I had to withdraw my kid from that school to get away from the nonstop pestering that ensued.

      •  they've always done that (1+ / 0-)

when I was a kid I did lots of activities with the ward in our small mountain town, because there was not much else to do...I guess they hit up my mother a few times, but it never got too bad.

        •  It is one thing to 'recruit' by knocking on doors, (0+ / 0-)

but quite another to pester kids in the school classroom where kids just can't get away from it.  There is no escape.

Did they follow you around in school or did you see an event that looked fun and it just happened to be at their Ward?

When I was younger, Mormon youth were never aggressive, opting to instead be reserved in nature.  Especially the girls.  But fast forward 30 years, and yeah, there is aggression.
