  •  btw I usually avoid the whole gun control "debate" (6+ / 0-)

because as a gun owner who has been hunting/shooting for 40 years and who fully favors strict tight regulations and banning of most weapons, I find that both sides usually consider me a heretic and treat me accordingly.  (shrug)

But I long ago concluded that the whole gun "debate" really isn't about guns at all--it's about one group of people declaring "you can't tell me what to do !!!" and another group declaring "oh yes we can !!!" That's why every such "debate" always inevitably degenerates into an argument about "rights !!!"

    •  I should probably correct this . . . . (5+ / 0-)

I started hunting at the age of 12 and continued for about 8 years. My family was very poor and lived in rural Pennsylvania, so most times whether we had meat in the spaghetti sauce depended solely on how good a shot I was.

I stopped hunting as soon as we no longer needed it, and haven't hunted since. The only stalking I do in the woods nowadays is with a camera.

I do still enjoy punching holes in pieces of paper, though, and try to get to the target range as often as I can.

    •  Len F - I think you've nailed the real situation - (0+ / 0-)

As a mom, I keep seeing the 'unregulated guns' people as 2yr old toddlers arguing with parents who have safety as a top priority.
Most of the people I know who are NRA supporters are at that emotional level & it scares me that they have guns 'to play with.' They don't think safety is important & they consistently make bad choices, while screaming about 'adult=freedom.' And then there's the drug & alcohol use ...

I don't live within shooting range of them for a reason.

Something that doesn't make good sense, makes bad sense. That means someone is being deliberately hurtful & selfish. Look for motives behind actions & words.
