  •  After Hurricane Ivan, all we had to (4+ / 0-)

keep the power on was our guns. We were prepared to kill our neighbors, but it turned out that they were all very helpful and wanted to pool resources and make sure everyone was OK. One neighbor (that we were prepared to shoot) had a swimming pool that she let all of us take water from to fill our toilets--and that was a real lifesaver, as it allowed us to flush.

Another neighbor had a large generator and let us sleep in air conditioning on a particularly hot night after the storm...

But we had guns. . .

Turns out that another neighbor had about 20 pounds of fish that was rapidly defrosting without power, and we all fried it up and ate really well for a few days.

Anyway, for our part, we were ready to kill everybody and could have saved the neighborhood from zombies or something, but it never came up for some reason.

    /snark-
