  •  I attended the 1981 Central Park show .... (11+ / 0-)

...... simply because I had nothing to do that day (and the weather was great). A few memories:

    1)  Mayor Koch introduced them simply as "Ladies and gentleman, Simon & Garfunkel".

    2)  I was befriended (as a 25 year-old) by a somewhat older couple who had more food and drink than I, very kind of them.

    3)  But there were numerous kids (who must have been in diapers when"Sounds of Silence " was released) that just plowed through and walked all over their blanket, plus talked incessantly.

    4)  The one exception: even the kids said "Shuuush" when the opening bars of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" could be heard.

    5)  And finally: after the show, the crowd spilled-out onto Central Park West, stopping traffic dead. But I was bewildered to see someone wave a Confederate flag as they proceeded down the block. For two nice Jewish guys from Forest Hills?

"We should pay attention to that man behind the curtain."
