  •  It might be war that's the problem. (13+ / 0-)

In a nation that so glorifies the indiscriminate mass murder that IS war, then turns its returning veterans loose without step-down or long term follow-up for PTSD, you'll have some dangerous people all over the place.

Our entire culture is all about guns and gun violence. And remember that back in 'Nam days the warriors had no choice - they were drafted, average age of the fighting forces on the ground in Vietnam was 19.

Recently the VA has instituted PTSD programs for veterans of the Mideast wars, and some Vietnam vets are now getting help they've needed for decades. Too little too late, of course.

When I separated, I did not out-process the same day as I got back to the States because it was Thanksgiving, and the out-processing place was closed. I spent the night in the 24-hour NCO club and became a civilian the next day.

From young AF SSGT in Thailand to civilian in WI took about three days, including travel time. I might be a bit depressed sometimes, it's hard to say; but I feel pretty good most days, and that's what matters.

All of us, even life-long civilians, have bad days sometimes. Please take care of yourself and be mindful of how you feel. If you suspect you have a problem related to your service, don't be shy about asking the VA for some help. If you're still here in Wisconsin, there's a very good VA facility in Milwaukee, and there are others around our state too.
