    Like Entlord said above, the last decade has been different from any conflict in our past, with so many tours of duty, one right after the other. Add in the fact that it is such a small group of Americans involved in both wars, and most Americans have no idea of what is going on in the Middle East right now. Throw in the woeful treatment of our veterans, from mental health care to employment opportunities, and it seems like a perfect storm that will hit sometime in the next two to three decades.

      There was NO mental health treatment for WWII vets ... and most of them stayed in for the duration. I'm sure that serving in Afghanistan is truly draining, but slogging across France and seeing a larger fraction of your friends die right there in front of you would also have an impact.

      Economics is a social *science*. Can we base future economic decisions on math?
