    I've been tutoring high school kids for 12 years.  The number students who get A's or B's on tests but still have absolutely no clue what on earth they've learned is staggering.

    Also, low marks on tests from students who are extremely bright/gifted but just happen to be poor test-takers (exceedingly common) aren't reflective of inability, either.

    You need evaluation.  But the way we currently do it is utterly useless.  

    Even more grimly, it's completely depriving students of an actual learning experience in school.
