  •  It can be hard to go against one's religious (6+ / 0-)

    upbringing.  My Grandfather was an unabashed racist; despite a lot of negative feedback, he never groked that he was on the wrong side of history.  I can remember literally sliding down the back seat of the car (hopefully out of sight) while some undeserving recipient of his racism gave him the what-for.  I hope he is happy in his version of heaven, bereft of family, because that is what he chose.

    On the other hand, many thought him a scion of society, risen from a low, low class to healthy respectability.

    We are a complicated, complicated species...

    And now I am off to contemplate my planks.
