  •  Not ironic at all - It is a feature (3+ / 0-)

I would say that is pretty much the plan.  If you didn't, the place might start to recover, or at least not get any worse. And where's the money in that?

Most people say that what some people say is pretty stupid.

    •  It would be nice to figure out way to marginalize (0+ / 0-)

them.  Unfortunately, at the moment, the wingnuts have the largest megaphone- though there is some evidence that their ability to maintain listeners seems to be waning.....somewhat.  Having tried to listen to "the other side" I just don't know how people can tolerate people like Rush, Beck, and Boortz for 3 hour stretches.  I can't listen to them for more than a few seconds.  It's all so black-and-white, us-vs.-them, no room for compromise/discussion.  It must be reassuring for some of the people whom listen to them I suppose but that sort of mentality has now creeped into our politics, which is making it impossible to get anything done and, despite the tendency of "centrists" to claim that "both sides do it", there is no real-world evidence that there is actual equivalency between them.  Democrats/progressives will suck it up and swallow their pride and usually compromise for the greater good.  Republicans don't seem to believe in a "greater good" however and therein lies the problem.  The main goal of Rush, Beck, Boortz is the destruction/marginalization of any opposing voices and winning-at-all-costs, which might be fun talking about on the radio for 3 hours a day, 5 days a week for millions of dollars (that would be a great job, wouldn't it?) but has boxed in the Republicans in Congress to the point that government has become severely dysfunctional.
