We've been warned many times in the past:  the easiest way to subvert good government is through coercive debt.  Yet who wouldn't go into even coercive debt for the sake of providing basic care for their children?  When I was a kid, usury was a felony; today, it's common practice.

When we Americans took on the revolutionary act of assuming our own sovereignty, we also surrendered much of that sovereignty to public debt.  However, at that time, money-lending was much more regulated, to prevent the complete loss of the power of the people.  Since then, we have been surrendering more and more sovereignty via corporate laws, and financial deregulation.  Love of money is the root of evil in part is because accumulating it, in the absence of meaningful regulation, is the equivalent of usurping the public power for private gain.

It would have been better to reform government instead of privatizing it, as the captains of industry and their minions have greedily and consequently madly pursued, to the awful detriment of the commons.

Call exploitation and debt slavery whatever you want.
