  •  I think the situation has gravely worsened (9+ / 0-)

since Royko's heyday. His eighties columns imagine action taken against handgun ownership, which many many liberals at the time took as an article of faith could one day become policy.

Such a proposal would be unthinkable today, for some reason, so ruthless and effective has been the strategic takeover within Congress of entrenched interests and their stooges. I think at this point the writing is on the wall. We will have to experience a disaster on the scale of the Mumbai attacks here on our soil before the barricades against sense and reason begin to crack in any meaningful way.

20 kids dead 2 weeks before Christmas, and today the best we can hope for is Manchin's support of toothless background check pablum. I would say things have gotten exponentially worse since 1980.

1977 was the year that the NRA was taken over-in a quite literal sense-by extremists who turned it into the monster that it is today. You can read about it here:Revolt at Cincinnati

Even a Mumbai style attack would not make a bit of difference. That is one thing we need to learn, and quickly. We, the people, are not the ones running this show right now, otherwise reason and common sense would already be prevailing.

I'm not about to sit back and allow that to happen. Are you?
Don't let this self-defeating Beltway pablum set the narrative here. This is far from over.
