find it on a map. It's an idea for people for whom the idea is all that counts. That's why they consider themselves idealists. They take the idea for the act. The idea is their reality.
There's actually a place called Promised Land in Pennsylvania. I drive by signs for it all the time.

Wikipedia says it's ironically named. I like to drive through that part of the country along interstate 84 and 81 because when the route was first laid out, it went through coal country and the depleted land was newly planted with fast growing trees to restore the area. It's been quite successful in the sense of visual restoration. The people of the historic mining area aren't doing as well. Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden are both originally from Scranton, Pa.  As one drives through the region one is led to wonder what they'd do, if they didn't have an annual infusion of dollars to rebuild the roads that begin to crumble before one building project is done. Knowing that Germany manages to build roads in somewhat similar terrain where frost also has to be taken into account, but their roads last 40 years while ours hardly last one is really depressing. Surely the people of the Pennsylvania coal country could be employed doing something more satisfying than constantly rebuilding roads and serving as prison guards, another growth industry.

        The much too promised land...

Hagel may be the best we can expect, but I'm still disappointed Obama didn't nominate a democrat.
