  •  I strongly suspect that people who are 'suspicious (10+ / 0-)

of the emotions currently are telling us - quietly - they believe the Sandy Hook conspiracy theory. that, to me, is the simplest explanation for this ugly insensitivity.

Secondly, this shit from the rabid defenders of guns (as distinguished from those who simply lay out logical arguments for this or that) is a 'tell'. They KNOW this was bad so they are - really - trying to deny the gravity of the situation.

I think the 2 dynamics are intertwined: They KNOW that the massacre of children is insurmountable, they have NOTHING else to bring to the table - otherwise it would already be there - and their paranoia about gun banning has been launched into orbit by this realization. I think they know they can't 'win' over this event with their usual bombast, but because they have absolutely nothing else, we see what we see: a second coat of painting themselves into a corner.

In the end, they are likely doing as much to push changes in gun laws as the most rabid gun banner. Even the banners can't make the NRA look as bad as it is doing all on its own.

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men.
