It is understood by anyone with a normal acquaintance with the English language (unfettered by axe-grinding agendas) that "senseless violence" refers to violence without a reasonable justification such as self-defense.

(Note that the justification has to be reasonable. The fact that the Nazis believed that they were defending the Aryan peoples against the Jewish Conspiracy does not meet that standard.)

A planned extermination of a people is not in my opinion "senseless".  Horrific, Evil, and Appalling, yes...

But they knew exactly what they were doing, and talked about it for years beforehand.

Kinda like what the NRA does now.  Nothing senseless about the violence that's going on.  It's totally predictable based off the track record, and the policies they're promoting.

As long as we call planned and hideous violence "Senseless" we're equating it to an "Accident."

Kinda like why the British don't call it a car accident.  They call it a Car Crash.  Somebody IS responsible for it.

      Just my opinion of course.

I don't blame Christians. I blame Stupid. Which sadly is a much more popular religion these days.

...by this definition, the Son of Sam murders were not "senseless" -- David Berkowitz knew exactly what he was doing (following the instructions of a 2000-year-old demon that was possessing the neighbor's dog). A definition that leads to such absurd conclusions is itself absurd.
