    Referring of course to the fracking boom that has led to dirt cheap natural gas prices - which is good insofar as natural gas results in about 1/2 the carbon dioxide emissions as burning coal for unit energy produced.

    What this particular analysis seems to overlook, however, is that a commensurate amount of methane "leaks" from fracking (about 7%) to totally undo any positive effects from the natural gas usage (because methane is about 20x more potent as a green house gas).

    Plus, with effort in the offing to begin exporting NG (combined with skepticism for how long fracking can maintain current production levels) the present reduction in carbon emissions smacks of being a temporary phenomenon.
