    "Spending" doesn't just go into a black hole; it cycles around into someone's pocket. And the point of most of the spending isn't "security;" it's goodies for the firms that have lobbied hard for that weapons system or whatever.

    In other words, it's a not-very-subtle way to transfer wealth from the rest of us to a small group of already-wealthy companies.

      ...or gets blown up, or is dished out to keep insurgents from attacking our troops.

      Another portion goes to the one-in-four Americans doing defense-related work, or rolling bandages, or some shit.

      The rest goes to the Caymans.

      to appropriate the $ for stuff our country can really use!  Defense spending is spread across the entire USA for a reason.  If citizens depend on defense work for a paycheck, there's no incentive to decrease it.  Too bad someone couldn't come up with replacement industries in those areas.  I'm thinking fuel efficient vehicles, long life batteries, and other hardware for renewable energy projects.
