  •  True story. In one of my wildlife biology classes (4+ / 0-)

in the sixties, we had the privilege of a winter guided tour to Yellowstone. The number two highlight of that visit for all of us aspiring professionals (the number one was watching a buffalo fall through river ice and spend a half hour successfully fighting to get back on top) was seeing the recent remains of a site where coyotes we're feasting on an elk kill (a BIg elk) that they had accomplished by steering the guy off the edge of a tall embankment.

And they will alwys cull the weak, old, and sick deer.

There can be no protection locally if we're content to ignore the fact that there are no controls globally.
