    Eastern coyotes are bigger than the western variety, running to 70 lbs. or more. Studies indicate that they migrated down from eastern Canada through northern NY/New England. Genetic analysis has shown that they possess up to 20% or more wolf DNA, the speculation being that there was interbreeding with wolves during their migration.

    Eastern coyotes have been seen hunting in small groups, cooperating to bring down larger prey. They have no difficulty at all with fawns, older/sicker deer etc.

    The reality is that coyotes are now the apex predators in the east, because nothing else is left. I have personally seen the remains of two adult deer kills by coyotes on my own land in the past 3 weeks
