pack would last me two to three days, although I got in a bad habit of chain smoking when I was on a writing roll and could go through a pack in one day. I didn't start until I was 25, I'm 50 now, so I was late bloomer I guess. I blame the French ... long story.

I started at 18 in college.  We thought it made us look older, cooler somehow.   It gave you something to do w/ your hands at parties.

I smoked for 4 years....up to a pack a day.  Stopped for 8 years when I got married at 22.  At 30, we went out to celebrate our 8 year wedding a bar.  Started again for one year, until my husband & children went nuts over my smoking.

      Haven't touched a smoke since....that was 37 years ago.
      It's a tricky little demon.

who started smoking at age 25, knowing full well how fucking stupid it was. I blame a guy.

Oh yeah - I quit at age 50, not because of an MI but because I knew it was going to kill* me one way or another and I'm just not ready to die yet.

*Dad had emphysema, which would have killed him if the sepsis from a bedsore created by untreated post-herpatic pain syndrome didn't get him.  Mom died 5 months later from lung cancer. So yeah - I'm pretty sure smoking would have killed me.

Out with the gloomage - in with the plumage!

      •  Holy Shit! Your story almost identical (0+ / 0-)

        to mine.
Started smoking at 25 after watching dad suffer through emphysema for months and months and months.

Mom died of small cell lung cancer, one year after quitting smoking, dad's giant heart just stopped 2.5 months before mom died.

I quite at age 51 to save money. Whatevs. Glad I quit.

Glad you're doing so much better. I was really looking forward to your real-time tweets, however. ;)
