  •  I had a lengthy conversation with my brother (13+ / 0-)

a suburban business owner, GOP (sometimes sounding like he is libertarian these days) and a person who has gradually limited his information to Fox News.  Your summary was an exact replica of what he was arguing.

I appreciate your promotion of the idea that running even when you lose changes the atmosphere because it seems our state Democrats have done the opposite, not bothering to support candidates in any way if they perceive they might lose.  There is so much more collaboration and mentoring between candidates that could take place at a minimal cost for one thing.  Also, as you said, if the opportunity to take questions from voters and present a challenge to the group think was valued in its own right I think it would gradually turn the tide.

I feel organizing on the ground campaign efforts in every county will make a huge difference because it adds up so quickly even with a few committed and experienced volunteers in each low population district.  It will also mean no area is "safe" and will challenge the gerrymandering fiasco.
