but not in the sneaky bullshit way they did. They gave their fans a giant middle finger. Like I said, no class. After Modell couldn't blackmail the taxpayers he snuck out of town in the middle of the night. I don't hate those other teams for moving. I hate the ravens and colts for being dicks about the way they did it.

Art Modell is going to the Football Hall of Fame for many great things.

And by the way, Cleveland sucks.

... was almost a Simpsons-esque caricature of a team owner, a la Montgomery Burns. Not only dod he get a financially strapped Cleveland to commit to building a brand new stadium that they could ill afford, then walk out of town under cover of darkness (literrally).

Later, when asked about Maryland diverting 50% of their lottery income away from public education (earmarked to build school libraries) over to build him a new stadium, he blithely replied:

"The pride and presence of a professional football team is far more important than 30 libraries."

"It's never too late to have a happy childhood." - Tom Robbins - Political Compass sez: -8.25, -7.90

it.  I did some googling, and you're correct.

Art Modell didn't get into the NFL Hall of Fame on this year's round, and now that I know about that comment, I think they should keep him out, much as he is loved in my second city of Baltimore (I was born in Washington, D.C. and that's always my home city).
