  •  No, his minions will talk one-on-one ... (1+ / 0-)

... with members of congress. Where no one challenges them. No gun control lobby has the access the NRA has.

The liberal media touts that the NRA isn't very good at making political campaign contributions because so few of its recipients won in 2012. But that completely misses the key point of contributions - access. It doesn't buy votes, it lubricates access.

When the NRA delivers its checks, it expects opportunities to tell its well-honed story this year. Moreover, the NRA can point to X number of NRA members back home in the state or the district. And it - with its gun manufacturer bosses, other handmaidens and True Believers - can mobilize shills to pack any town meeting in any district.

Vocal talkers and shouters count in a charged town meeting atmosphere. Sweet reason without effective challenge counts in the peace and quiet of a member's DC or field office office.

Forget national polls. No one but the GOP's designated presidential candidate runs nationally and that's years away. What do the polls back home say, the bought-and-paid-for ones? And why would we think the NRA's lobbyists won't be able to talk any bad poll results down, reason them away?

Yes, LaPierre and others will make unforced errors just like the Mittster and his minions did. So, LaPierre - the Big Dog - need only go into offices where he will be embraced warmly, where his ridiculous mouthings on TV will make no difference, but his presence is impressive and makes for good photo ops for back home campaigning.

Dont underestimate the NRA just because we see though it.

2014 IS COMING. Build up the Senate. Win back the House : 17 seats. Plus!
