opined that when the pix was taken in Aug '12, that Prez Obama had fine form, and clearly knew what he was doing.  Not a beginner.

He spoke of the way he held the shot gun, his upright position at that point (which meant he had leaned forward when pulling the trigger to anticipate the recoil).

There was also a bit of envy about the quality of the gun.  Evidently not a Wal-Mart special.

As usual Pete Souza got a photo shot that literally 'smoked'.  (His camera can be set to take multiple images within mini-seconds of each other, and then choose the best one.)

I imagine, shooting at targets and skeet, is a tension reliever for the Prez.  Wonder if as he is lining up, he imagines anyone as a target?  Rush, Beck, Coulter, The Turtle, Cantor ?????

...and his "form" continues to shine...and the rest of the stuff too.

what brand, model the gun is.  I suspect if you go into one of the RKBA diaries someone can tell you.

I noted it was a very well cared for gun - hadn't been exactly kicking around the camp fire coals or left out in the rain, at Camp David.

Since he said sometimes foreign & US guests use the shooting range, and I'm sure entry into the Camp David grounds is closely monitored, I imagine there are well maintained guns available at some guard house/hut for the use of all.
I imagine an eagle eye is kept on all who have a gun in their hands, especially in the presence of the Prez.  There won't be any incidents at THAT gun range, as there were recently in Texas.

        •  thanks !! i chose a model on my own, (2+ / 0-)

downloaded the user's guide (for the center-shot version, not the rim-shot) and will be reading for a bit.

1st thing is, i gotta read the "Ten Commandments of Firearm Safety" which will explain why so many mistakes happen... most people i know just "dive right in," ignoring user guides completely.

i've read the user guides for everything i've ever bought that provides one, or MADE someone find me one for some purchase.

wish more people had that attitude.  That is one thing that disturbs me most about guns in households, they are not given respect, are used as toys, etc.  Stay safe.

See this past exchange  (pre-comment & afterwards) for people who had different ideas about gun safety, in WakeUpNeo's diary.

At at girls camp in VT circa 1960, I won a commendation for safe rifle handling & marksmanship.  First time I picked up a gun and just about the last time.  Most girls were at the tennis courts, but I have never been good at anything with balls - baseball, tennis, ping pong, volleyball, etc.

            *****
Speaking of tech - we are in the throes of choosing a new TV - talk about research!!!   Think we've just about decided on a Samsung.   We've been using my deceased mother's 25 yo one, since the one inherited from my aunt died a year ago.  (That was about 15 yrs old!)  It's going to be 32" of visual shock!

The house techie is having fun looking!

            •  so, guess how long it was (0+ / 0-)

              before i drove my car.
(operator's guide is in glove-box... with air gauge and Vise-Grips and various tools...)
there's ALL KINDS of neat stuff in those manuals.
              makes users BETTER users.
              SoniCare ? you bet.
              short-wave universal radio ? yep.
              ;)

              i can't wait - CAN'T WAIT - for my first wash/dry appliances.
              .........
in my most politest voice: could this be considered a generalization, an opinion? or is there data for it ?

"That is one thing that disturbs me most about guns in households, they are not given respect, are used as toys..."
              ........
at any rate, it's me doing the educating of me, and starting with manuals before operating/using just seems basic. also, resisting all sorts of preconceived notions i have/had as to what's "best" died long ago, when Consumer Reports schooled me on buying autos: Rule #1 -- DO NOT FALL IN LOVE with a car, before you research it, drive it, shop it, check its teeth... ;)

thanks for your thoughts !! i'll leave it at this for now, but can always go to the thread link you supplied, if i think i need to flesh out some aspects.

        available on NYT web site:

        from:  Chris Barton,     McKinney, TX

He's got good form. Feet are square with his shoulder, butt is tightly in the crook of his shoulder, check is pressed down firmly against the stock, and he's standing up straight which indicates he leaned into the shotgun just before pulling the trigger. He may have overextended his index finger when pulling the trigger, but he has long fingers so I can't fault him. I give his form an A-minus. You don't shoot like this the first time you pick up a shotgun, it takes practice. Very fine shotgun as well.

          the user manual, soon.

          really great teachers, user manuals.
lots of factual facts, interesting detail/specs/illustrations, a few disclaimers (using certain ammunition), contact info, manufacturing info, all that's missing is "find a gunsmith near you" so many other items include ... well, not find a gunsmith, but "find a dealer near you" works for appliances, doesn't it ?
