    But I'm not a fan of office hopping.

    Montana happens to have a gigantic Democratic bench for a moderately Republican state.

      Runs for Senate next year and wins, she's definitely going to be talked about for VP in 2016 and probably going to be talked about for president in either 2020 or 2024.

      have far stronger benches in red states than they do blue states.

      Some examples: Good bench in Kentucky, WV, and Montana.
      Poor bench in Massachusetts, NJ, and Michigan.

        I don't know that Democrats can be said to have a "good" bench in, say, West Virginia. We have two or three potentially viable candidates there, but let's face it, Sen. Rockefeller's seat is probably gone.

        And I can come up with plenty of counterexamples. There are lots of good Democrats all over the state in New York, for instance. California has no shortage of talented Democrats looking to move up. Democrats have built a strong bench in Oregon.
