I have a bone to pick with Edward as I'm of Scottish ancestry. It took Robert the Bruce many years to kick that guy out of Scotland.

He kicked Edward's idiot gay son, Edward II, out. (Edward II, by the way, was later deposed by his wife and her French lover, who killed him by reportedly shoving a hot poker up his rectum.)

Edward I was nowhere near as bad as Braveheart depicted him. (Neither was Edward II; he actually was a strong handsome guy despite his weak rule). He was a very effective ruler and a brilliant millitary commander. He could be harsh, true, but he never instigated that "first night" stuff. That was all in Gibson's deranged head.

    •  I thought that didn't happen for centuries (0+ / 0-)

And by the time it did, it didn't, really, thus the UK.
