    and yes the number of suicides at local jails seems even more significant.

    Wonder why that is?

    I am no expert on any of this, but these studies do raise a number of questions that I hope to explore in greater depth over time.

    For instance, what might the high suicide rates at local facilities suggest about access to mental health services, either before or after entering detention?

    Why the broad range of health conditions and causes of death in some states as compared to others?

    Why do some segments of long-term prison poulations actually seem to experience greater longevity than their "outside" counterparts?

    Many more questions...
