all of which are IIRC controlled by Republicans, whose water table is only a matter of time before being toast, but whose R rulers see only the business issues for the pipeline operatiors, even the one who blew up one of these in MI and still hasn't gotten it cleaned up. Farmers and those needing clean water are not even on the R radar screen as the failure to do drought relief this last year should have shown.

And RKF is correct on another point, that we are putting the aquifers and such at terrible risk not for the permanent jobs ad the additional energy which the US supposedly gets out of it, because all of those permanent jobs are in Canada, save for the odd bit of construction and maintenance, and the entire pipeline is being laid so the oil may go to the international market at a higher price from Houston, rather than stopping at the OKLA transfer point where oil going to the US goes.

I know they are woofing about running it to Vancouver and the Pacific market, but there are more than a few earthquake zones and mountain ranges in the way of that construction,  in a manner that does not encourage that over the Go through the Grain Belt route. The grain belt route is flat by comparison and only crosses over the most vital waterways on the route south.
