    There were not the magazines, newpapers, radio transcripts, photographs, books, memoirs, etc. that connect us fairly well with events of 100 years ago.

    For instance, can you imagine that Teddy Roosevelt could have destroyed all copies of an act of Congress. Yet Henry VII almost did just  that. Finally after 100 years, one copy of the Titilus Regius was found, but all others were destroyed and for that 100 years none were known.

    Also, it is somewhat different in that now one cannot lose one's head for writing a play that is unpopular with the ruler.
