by modern evangelicals, and homosexuality or suspicions thereof into a different category within that.

People who are known to be ex-gay, even if they claim to be fully converted to being heterosexual, can pretty much only warm a pew or lead an ex-gay ministry. Just about anyone else old enough to lead a Sunday School class has a wider breadth of available roles within the evangelical church.

Prayers and best wishes to those in Japan.

However, I just listened to a radio preacher for a while and it seems that a single fragment of a sentence from a Gospel fueled his entire sermon.  These guys really don't need a Bible.  Had there been no Bible, they would have written their own

But it's something I noticed a while back, and I've been wondering ever since why someone would pick being an ex-gay in a church that publicly will never let them be anything other than a highly suspect lay member on the fringe over being in a similar gay-friendly denomination that would let them do just about anything in the congregation other than be a deacon or pastor and sometimes even those roles?

I mean, the groups touting ex-gay groups are expecting people to willingly join groups that proclaim that even after years of reparative therapy and prayer, even if it all works and they flip from homosexual to heterosexual... they will NEVER truly be welcome in the church as a whole. The only place they can ever belong is over in the ex-gay corner, even if they never had gay sex, even if it was only a desire, even if it was only a desire once during puberty that they mistakenly told the wrong person about and has tainted them in the eyes of the church ever since.

They will never be welcome there, even if they obey perfectly and comply absolutely. It will never be enough.

Even a miracle would never be enough.

Prayers and best wishes to those in Japan.

        •  I note that evangelicals are starting the (0+ / 0-)

drumbeat that to have a gay tolerant policy, the BSA would be inviting pedophiles to sign up as volunteers and scout masters.  Completely silly but these folks have never realized there is no link between sexual orientation and sexual crimes
