  •  This must be a very difficult time (13+ / 0-)

for you. Losing vision and independence has to be a very challenging experience. I am a nurse who works at a guide dog school for the blind (been there 20 years). Although I don't have personal experience of being blind or visually impaired I have worked with literally thousands who are.

I know this must be a very dark and scary period in your life. What I can tell you is that some of the most courageous, productive, independent and inspiring folks I know....are blind and/or visually impaired students, friends and co-workers of mine. Whenever I find myself whining about some problem in my life....I think of them and it gives me a huge kick in the butt.

If you haven't already done so....I urge you to get in touch with your local agency for the blind and visually impaired. There are SO many services they can provide and items they can help you obtain to make activities of daily living and traveling much easier for you. There are talking devices for almost anything imaginable. You can get free narrated books on tape. There are computer programs like "JAWS" that turn text into speech. There are people that can help with career services and jobs.

And if you have lost or will lose sight to the extent that you are no longer able to safely travel on foot, you can qualify for a guide dog. I may be biased about that, but I have seen so many, many lives enhanced and enriched by these wonderful, capable, loving animals!
