Kansas Audio Reader network, which broadcast local newspapers, magazines and books (back before talking books were common) for people with reading difficulties across Kansas and into some of the neighboring states where the signal would reach.  My favorite items to read were the local newspapers where we would read the town council minutes, the items about what was going on about town, the local history columns, the hospital admissions/dismissals, and the obituaries, since those were of interest to many listeners.

Most listeners were seniors who had lost sight, though there were some people who were sightless but younger.  We also had someone who had lost both hands so reading was a challenge.  I will never know how many people appreciated my efforts, but I'll bet there's something similar for Massachusetts, whether it's online or perhaps through a special receiver like in Kansas.

Best wishes and I hope something changes so you don't lose that last eye.

very much appreciated. Your service is invaluable and makes many people's lives a lot more enjoyable. I can tell you that thanks to my uncle being able to listen to books has generated countless hours of conversation about the subjects in the books and kept his mind sharp.
