    If you have to report your gun stolen, that's one more step down the slippery slope to national registration of guns.  Which means the jackbooted thugs can come for your guns.  Which means, uh, Communism or something.

    You'll hear this argument if a gun bill goes to the House.  It's the rationale they're using to oppose universal background checks too.

      want to force people to report stolen guns, only one of which is this fear of Big Brother nonsense. Another, I'm guessing, is that it's freaking embarrassing to have your gun stolen, considering that a gun is for self-protection. What does it say about me, they're probably thinking, that I let my gun be stolen?

      The willful denial and distortion of reality forms the essential core of modern conservatism. They're living out some bizarre "He Man" fantasy about how they're all completely self-reliant and manly and super tough and are the last holdouts of the real America, in a slow burn version of the siege of the Alamo.
