"Any edict, regulation, or so-called 'federal law' which infringes on the right of the citizens of Hancock County, Ohio to keep and bear arms for their security will not be tolerated, recognized or enforced by me or my office."

On the most basic level, wouldn't the primary responsibility of a county sheriff be to enforce county laws?

And not federal laws so much?  Sure, that's some needless grandstanding on his part, but I suspect that his department is already knee (or higher) deep in selective enforcement on laws.    In fact, if they weren't, they'd never keep up.

      •  Hey, its ALL selective enforcement (1+ / 0-)

        And YOU'VE been selected!
A cop told me that as he was writing me a ticket one time. We should be glad it is, if all sheriffs enforced every law there'd be so many complaints

Our sheriff has elected to enforce Oregon's liberal marijuana laws rather than the federal law. Our law was voted in and has the approval of our Supreme Court.

He also has said he's not going to enforce federal immigrattion laws where he has to break up families.

Trying to do the best he can on a limited budget---that IS what we elect him to do

        Happy just to be alive

are another execellent example of the hypocrisy inherent in is diary as there are several examples of some of the most progressive locales inthe country making a big deal about not enforcing them (and vice versa,of course!)
