    move climate in the right direction is the absence of the human need for fossil fuels. If a technology is developed to effectively remove large quantities of greenhouse gases, then humans could use some small amounts of fossil fuels. Until then, Earth is not in a balanced situation. I know, it paints a dismal picture.

      The carbon cycle can accommodate more Greenhouse gas emissions than nature emits without burning fossil fuels, without changing the climate. Not as much as we pump into it now, but more than zero.

      What's the actual quota of human emissions the carbon cycle can accommodate before tipping? And how much extra if we reforest and otherwise regrow places we chopped down as we colonized it, now that we can live within more natural growth than when we arrived?
