  •  In fact, saying that a Jew... (18+ / 0-)

...is spouting stuff that sounds as if it came from the Protocols is just short of calling someone a Nazi. It shouldn't be forgotten that some historians have argued, with good cause, that Hitler & Cronies used the Protocols as a rationale for the Holocaust. So what label is being attached when somebody says a person sounds as if he is echoing the Protocols. Personally, I'd call that way over the line.

Don't tell me what you believe, show me what you do and I will tell you what you believe.

although I felt the line he was responding to was over the line as well.

Israeli doesn't run our politicians...that was the suggestion in the last line of the diary.  Jumped out at me immediately as well.

C'mon man everybody knew that was shit, well most everyone anyway but acknowledging the fact just because he made a statement? Seriously?

of respect for that particular diarist and really enjoyed his thoughtful and self-reflective posts but he has been trending more and more towards anti-Israel for the sake of being anti-Israel.

          •  I can get with that (0+ / 0-)

and I stay away from these discussions because I have no standing in these arguments. I have opinion but feel that I personally have no standing and must stand down and allow those with "skin in the game" so to speak to decide what is best.

So again I back away and view from the outside hoping others find common ground.

            •  You have skin and money and blood in the game (0+ / 0-)

And all human beings, not just those whose government provides Israel impunity to all standards of decency have skin in any game that violates international law, the Geneva Convention and common human decency. Since when is one neutral on theft, murder and ethnic cleansing? And no, it's not complicated.

          •  The problem for me is not (4+ / 0-)

that The Troubadour is anti-Israel but that he increasingly echoes the libel that Jews who support Israel are not loyal to the U. S. Why does he include that sickening implication in his argumentation? He needs to introspect here.

Many if not most Jews are very troubled by Israel's current policies. But in stereotyped discourse, Jews are all assumed to side with AIPAC. Increasingly, they don't. AIPAC is like an old man's nursing home now. But American Jews, like everyone else, have the right to their varied opinions, even pro-Israel ones, without having their Americanness questioned.

Was not targetted solely at aipac or Israel but also at the "friends" and "supporters" of Israel on the right. That's not conspiracy or anti-semitic but is fact. Unless aipac, the radical right, Israel and military contractors who earn a living from our support of Israel are all the same.

well versed in the situation over there, particularly given his own traumatic experience with terrorism and his subsequent re-evaluation of the political situation.

          Lines like this

But when the hawkish, "pro-Israel" lobby in America can influence our representatives to sound as if they – well – are representing Israel's citizens more than our own?
by the poster are deliberately chosen.  particularly the hyphen and the final phrase.  He knows exactly what he's doing, and knew exactly the response it would elicit--both from I and from P supporters.

The diary stood completely well on its own without that last inflammatory line.

What VB said was wrong--but I can certainly see why he was furious.
