  •  I am routinely threatened in my 20 mile (7+ / 0-)

    trek to work.

    And I'm IN a car.

Lady with a LAPTOP open on her lap driving a mini van

Lady eating a bowl of cereal and driving...driving into MY lane and forcing me into oncoming traffic. And I am not supposed to call her names?

A daily thing here - I am stunned there aren't more wrecks.

otherwise known as I-15. Although not too frequently, as I'm retired and basically don't have to go anywhere if I don't want to.

I hear there is a plan afoot to clear the clean air cars out of the HOV lanes on I-15. It's become mostly a paid express lane where if you're only going 80 in your Prius the racers in their F-350s threaten to run you over in their quest to go 90+.

So now I guess we'll have to resume mixing it up with the folks weaving around "obstacles" in the other lanes.

I also hear that those 80 mph stretches down south are going to be raised to 85. They're called experimental, sometimes I think the experiment is to find out the top speed of the cars that use that stretch of I-15, lol.

      Moderation in most things.

85+ = $400 fine and a sternly worded letter about the future of your driving.

        Yes...its just a cash cow.

        •  I had to take an online driving course in Juab (4+ / 0-)

County, on the way south one time, in lieu of a $600 fine.

I was trying to get around a specialized semi trailer carrying some kind of top-heavy load. The trailer was fine at 50 mph, but at 55 it became unstable and swerved around 2 feet outside the lines left and right. The driver kept doing that so I decided to wait until the slow part of his cycle and pass promptly. I forgot just how much torque a Highlander Hybrid has when you floor it, and went from 50 at the back of the truck to about 100 when I got to the front. At which point I looked left and there was the Utah Highway Patrol looking right at me with radar.

As I talked to the officer a mile or three down the road, the trailer came swerving by as I explained what I had been doing. He wrote my speed down from "you are immediately arrested" to whatever it was that let me keep going on my way.

I've kept my dang lead foot under control for the 4+ years since that happened, you betcha.
