have seen so many similar cases. I know this will never happen but I think as soon as a doctor says a patient should not work, Social security disability should start. Or at the very least, after 2 doctors say a patient should not work, that patient should immediatelybe on SSD.
Once a doctor determines a person cannot work, it should not take 2 to 3 years to receive social security disability.

Did it always take this long? I thought it took less time a few decades ago for SSD or SSI to start once a doctor signed a form and the patient sent it in to social security, I recall a relative and a neighbor back in the 70s receiving social security disability within a few months.

I blame the Reagan era and Republicans in control of the legilsature and White House for far too lnog back in the 80s, 90s and since for so much, including how they try to cut food stamps, medicaid , medicare, WIC and more.
I do not know if the GOP is responsible for how long it takes SSD to start for those whose doctors all say they cannot work or just bureaucracy and understaffed and overworked social security employees.

My mom got her SSI within a couple of months when she became disabled. This girl may have made mistakes in the past but she's trying so hard now.

Three times I have seen her get a job at a gas station or convenience store only to go down again, the last time with a cold that immediately became pneumonia and pleurisy. Her sugar is always out of whack, I'm afraid she is a brittle diabetic, but then they are poor so you can imagine their diet.

Of her children the youngest, a first grade girl is brilliant. She was reading before Kindergarten, the boy is behind with learning disabilities. Their shoes and school clothes came from the Boys and Girls Club.

How can we just treat those among us who try so hard with such disdain?
