    I've never even thought of it in those terms. I've always done things independently - from when I was a little kid, and people believed the world was safer (even though crime is way down since then), I've gone off adventuring on my own. My childhood was a blast! And I've never stopped going most places on my own. Having children has been tough, in some ways (though I wouldn't trade my kids for the world), because of the loss of alone time, but it never occurred to me I wasn't supposed to be that way.

    As a result, I also never noticed the real meaning behind headlines questioning why a woman was alone when some tragedy struck. I always just ignored or dismissed them - of course women spend time alone!

    Thank you for writing this diary - it shone a light on a prejudice I hadn't even noticed.
