    I read the story as the food was punishment for he bad behavior, so I assumed the mental problems preceded the use of "food as punishment."  

    But since I have no idea (having only read the diary and the article), so I wouldn't argue either way - you felt comfortable doing so, so I wanted to know, why?

    Especially since you threw in the "irony" jab at the parents.

    I feel horrible about what this child went through and also that you could not eat as much as you wanted.  Clearly we are still a society that needs to grow in its ability to empathize.

    While I did not need reminding that humans are "organic machines,"  the rest of the quote was useful information.  We certainly need more education as well.

    People, not corporations. Democracy, not totalitarian capitalism. Fuck the NRA.
