  •  Two days off lets a lot of mail pile up... (5+ / 0-)

We noticed that on three day weekends for years, by sunday evening we we're running out of places to put mail. Same thing at some of the Hostess bakeries that closed saturday and sunday- was a major battle to get all the Twinkies and such out on friday night and saturday. That's why most big bakeries don't shut down for two days in a row.

    •  not sure how long ago you worked at USPS (0+ / 0-)

my carrier says that Thursday, Friday and Saturday are the lightest days of the week for them.  On Fridays, he says, some carriers come back to the station 90 minutes early because the mail volume was so light.

Ending Saturday Dely is not that big a deal.  Even the prescriptions meds by mail could easily adjust to this schedule by shipping on the appropriate weekday.

Oregon: Sure...it's cold. But it's a damp cold.

Early in the week is big for parcels as folks shop online over the weekend. Late in the week you get lots of advertising mailings, as the businesses want them "in home" on thursday or friday.
