  •  I know my dad had PTSD from watching my mom (8+ / 0-)

in the ICU, from Veteran's Day of 1999, when she had the stroke that destroyed part of her involuntary reflex center, to January 7 of 2000, when she passed away after being taken off a breathing machine (before she had to be intubated, permanently, for nutrition).

Was it diagnosed by a medical professional? No. He just ... changed. The light went out of him. He passed away Veteran's Day 2002.

    •  Sis' husband went in for a knee replacement (7+ / 0-)

He ended up having more strokes than I can count. He received no treatment for the first stroke from around 3am to near noon the next day. He was in an orthopedic wing of a hosp. and they didn't even contact his doctor at first. They said that it was reaction to his meds.

That stroke took his vision and short term memory, the rest just turned his brain into Swiss cheese but didn't kill him for 2 years. A bed sore on his foot killed him eventually.

He was a Vet and it took us until the last three months to get him in the Veteran's nursing home. The Veterans were the one's that finally closed the hole in the back of his heart that caused them.
