  •  A couple of points........... (7+ / 0-)

First in regard to the arguments and speculation on Ms. Phelps-Roper exposure to the real world through TV, book, movies etc; knowing what I know about strict fundamentalists, home-schoolers and right-wing evangels; I would guess that there was very little.

HOWEVER, she was responsible for spreading WBC’s slime and filth through social media. This is important as it means she also had access to information on the social media contrary to those that had been hammered into her for 27 years. I think it is testimony to the strength of social media information that she has turned-around in her thinking over the last couple of years.

Also, in regards to her future I think of the words of Gandhi are appropriate, “I like your Christ, but not your Christians.”  Can anyone with any knowledge of the life of Jesus as related in the New Testament reasonably believe that he would choose protesting and spewing hate speech at the funeral of a random soldier over ministering to a person dying of AIDS?  Since she has made the break I believe she will make the right choices.

    •  I cannot help thinking that in that enviroment (0+ / 0-)

if she was going to use social media at all, she had to toe the line.

My family was nowhere nearly as restrictive, but I can resonate with the requirement to use your interests and drives in service to the family's plans and desires and needs over your own.

And if she was waiting for her sister, she couldn't risk getting disfellowshipped before that magical 18th birthday. Give it to them hot and strong, say the right things so they'll believe them....and let your actions speak for themselves.

When you come to find how essential the comfort of a well-kept home is to the bodily strength and good conditions, to a sound mind and spirit, and useful days, you will reverence the good housekeeper as I do above artist or poet, beauty or genius.
