to destroy the USPS.  They are working feverishly to do so.  No doubt about that.  And it is an insult to the American people.  As I have posted, many receive their VA medications through the mail all across the country.  Sometimes the system cuts it very close (to the exact day or a few days too late, to get Rx's - life saving ones - to veterans).  So many of you need to realize that just because you don't use the USPS - the common good is not adversely affected by this Republican-right wing plot to destroy the USPS.

require extraordinary evidence. Where is your evidence of this "plot?"

All I see is a natural contraction of an entity that is used less and less with each passing year.

        right before your very eyes:

        1. Privatization of jails & prisons.
        2. Privatization of schools (pushing vouchers).
        3. Privatization of highways, roads, freeways.
        4. Privatization of Social Security = destroying SS.
        5. Privatization of government services - license issuance
                                                                      criminal checks
                                                                      child protection
                                                                      social services
                                                                      birth certificates
                                                                      Job training

& Privatization of  colleges and schools - so called for profit diploma mills with horrible dropout rates - adversely affecting state and other public colleges and universities.  All Republican agenda items.  There is evidence of a concerted attempt to destroy good government, the common good, the public sector and turn it all over to for profit entities.

you're not going to convince me. And I'm not going to convince you. So have a lovely day!

a minimally functioning Postal System? Do you think the proposal to eliminate Saturday delivery is a good thing? I don't, and if you aren't swayed by other's reason, at least you could provide some of your own.

              in my original post.

Mail volume is way down. It makes sense to eliminate one day of service. I don't view this as the sky falling.

I do think that it's problematic that the postal service has to pre-fund its pension plan. But I don't find the end of Saturday service particularly problematic. And I don't think that that suddenly makes postal service "minimally functioning."

You’d think that the Congress-induced collapse of the Postal Service, which is causing the loss of Saturday mail, which disproportionately impacts Republican rural and elderly constituencies, would cause them to rise up in a frenzy against their tea leaders, but I doubt it will happen. When they’re waiting an extra days for their mail order prescriptions* from the VA, Medicare-financed diabetes test strips, letters from other oldsters, checks from their kids in the cities, and the latest Franklin Graham newsletter, the last entity that they’ll be railing against is Congress. The Post Office itself and “Government” in general will get a thrashing in their minds, but there will be no action. Years of anti-government rhetoric has turned it into an abstract, evil entity that just needs to be starved. The idea that a few relatively minor legislative changes could keep Saturday deliveries coming won’t make it into Fox News, so it will be far from their consciousness.
