that has been waged for more than 40 years.  UPS and FEDEX want unfettered access to all package and letter business.  But they only want the big city markets.  They don't want the rural or small population states or cities.

I am a retired USPS worker, APWU State representative, and it is nothing new.  The requirement that the congress placed on the USPS to PRE-fund all retirement for all employees is what is killing the Postal Service, just as the Repubs knew it would.

The major problem with all of this is that NO ONE can step in and take over the volume the USPS handles.  The USPS handles more mail and packages in one or two months than Fedex or UPS does in one year.  There are some things that the Postal Service offers that are LEGALLY the only acceptable way to prove notification should one have to do so in a court of law.

Yes, there are many ways the USPS could be improved, but the BIG BOYS in DC have no experience with the actual work that the USPS does or what it takes to do it and they don't want to hear from employees how to make it better.

    •  why did Congress mandate that? (0+ / 0-)

To whose advantage was it to dismantle the Post Office?

I've heard it was the UPS Union. could that have been right?

to stop this - we NEED the post office!

pm me if you'd like to help in organizing an official plan of action here on kos -

my early ideas are flood reps and senators with physical first class mail as a startup.  then we need to do much much more.  i'm all for groups showing up at post offices on saturday with signs saying "SAVE OUR SATURDAY DELIVERY!" and more.

we CAN stop this if we make enough noise!  also, the pension funding issue can be effectively raised - even if it is dropped to 20 years out instead of 30, would that make a difference?

i'd love more information so we can put together a real team to fight back this "drowning the government and the little people in a bathtub" attempt.

EdriesShop Is it kind? is it true? is it necessary?
