  •  When I lived in Los Angeles (8+ / 0-)

I once took my wife on what I thought would be a scenic drive up into the San Gabriel Mountains, along the road follows the San Gabriel River,

    Big mistake.

    First...the traffic sucked.

Second...at every turn which afforded a view down to the river, all you saw were people and trash.  Beer cans, disposable diapers, styrofoam ice chests, fast food bags, plastic bags, you name it.

It was enough to make one want to cry...yet all these people that the LA lowlands had regurgitated up into the foothills were recreating in the midst of it, and contributing to the effluence.

It is one of the most sickening memories I have of living in Los Angeles.  (That, and the trash heaps in Griffith Park)

Oregon: Sure...it's cold. But it's a damp cold.
