The problem is not John McCain.  He isn't the producer of Meet the Crass.  He can't force himself on the show.  Someone has to invite him.

Therefore,  all fingers should be pointed at the lazy Villagers  at NBC News.  Shame, shame on them.

    It's the Supreme Court, stupid!

We're all politics nerds here; a very high percentage of us watch Meet the Press or Face the Nation. I suggest telling NBC or CBS and the others that we'll continue to eagerly watch their show, except for weeks when John McCain is on. Even if all it does is briefly make them think twice about calling Johnny Mac, or better still if they stop inviting him, Washington will be a better place. Plus, we'd get to enjoy the schadenfreude, knowing that McCain's head exploded when he realized that no one gives a sh!t about his opinion anymore. It's a win-win.

      •  If John McCain and/or his BFFs Lindsey Graham and (10+ / 0-)

Joe Lieberman are scheduled to be on a Sunday talk show, I always decide that reorganizing my sock drawer is a much better use of my time.

"Privatize to Profitize" explains every single Republican economic, social and governing philosophy. Take every taxpayer dollar from defense, education, health care, public lands, retirement - privatize it, and profit from it.

      •  I've never understood why anyone (4+ / 0-)

much less liberals or Democrats, bothers watching them at all. The 700 Club is more entertaining, a program like "Ow! My Balls!" would be more intellectual, and the various shopping channels, like QVC, more edifying.

My total contact with those shows is Charlie Pierce's "What the Gobshites Are Saying" feature every Monday. And I think that's too much.

McCain is possibly the only person in the country who finds these programs important or relevant, and he isn't exactly a GOP leader either in the Senate, nationally, or even factionally, like with tea partiers, Freepers, or Red Staters (most of whom probably hate McCain). Senator Joe McCarthy has more influence, and he's been dead for over 50 years.

Look at who they book - Carly Fiorina? Newt? Bob Woodward? Peggy Noonan? In what universe do these people or their opinions matter to anything at this point in time? The Sunday shows are sanctuary for political has-beens -  including McCain.

The Sunday shows are as relevant and significant as re-runs of Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, and as important as the latest news about the Kardashians or Paris Hilton, who are at least marginally better looking than McCain.

If people paid even less attention to them - all of the above (except Pierce) -  maybe they'd all go away.

Modern revolutions have succeeded because of solidarity, not force.

The Sunday Talk Shows are traced back to a time where the only national teevee news available was at 6:30 PM every evening (Huntley/Brinkley Report, Walter Chronkite). No time for political roundtables during those half hour nightly news programs. Thus, along came the political round table format of Meet the Press on Sunday Morning, where those issued could be covered in greater detail.

Now we can hear this stuff 24/7 on numerous channels on the radio, teevee and a myriad of internet sites. They only remain on the air because of their legacy. They could go away tomorrow and no one would shed a tear.
