  •  The face does not match the head---Magritte (3+ / 0-)

Like Renee Magritte, the top portrait has a face in the mirror that is looking directly in, while the head seen is looking to the right. The man looks to the right, is taken to the right, but the face, the soul, the real self that looks back has a furrowed brow and looks old and anxious.

The bath tub is interesting, because the legs are too wide, too, empty, and the space too great. The man is no man. He is too empty, too lost. He cannot admit his own genital identity. Nor can he admit the perspective that would occur from a full body displacing water. Instead, we have these ghostly sticks splayed against the tub walls -- withered sticks that could not support a man, the testimony of ravages rather than the powerful thighs of a father.

    I see despair.

Everyone is innocent of some crime.
