  •  I've seen that video before (7+ / 0-)

and I'm sure the makers of the video felt very smug and clever in producing it.  After it was over, I gave it some thought. The narrator certainly seemed to think that he was superior and sophisticated and above it all.  There must be an important message in there, right?

Well no.  There really isn't.  And as it turns out, it's not very clever at all.  There are some contradictions in his presentation, it's the opposite of Occam's razor, and it takes a whole lot of time and resources to say that sometimes there are weird reasons for things that you would never have guessed.

Well... no shit.   Sometimes the reasons for things will be strange and unexpected and you should be careful about making assumptions.  But what he failed to say is that most of the time, the reasons are not weird and unexpected and  Occam's razor is still the best approach to with which to start.

    •  maybe, but (0+ / 0-)

i dont know, assuming a coordinated plan on the part of a court system that cant even schedule a preliminary hearing half the time due to a lack of judges and magistrates and public defenders and lacks the ability to pay its clerks and court officers because its budgets have been slashed seems like the opposite of occams razor to me, especially when an equally, if not more likely scenario is that youre just looking at a bunch of state and city employees running around not knowing what the hell theyre doing, some of whom may have bad intentions, but most of whom probably do not.

anyhow, did notice a smug and superior tone here, but it wasnt in that video, which i thought was pretty light hearted and to the point.
