  •  Love, however ( and more specifically, loving) (14+ / 0-)

Is not nearly so one dimensional as many of the pithy quotes that so often seem to be thrown around in these season and circumstances where people feel empowered to speak of love publicly.

Sometimes it is an act of the deepest kind of care and love to remain silent, to step away, NOT to do the easiest thing and make a rather generic statement that seems to collapse the vast complexity of emotions, actions, words and gestures that make up so many ways that humans love into fat too simple formulas.

I long pondered if it isn't the very private, personal and individually variable dimensions of these forms of intimacy that makes the public displays of them seem so often to fall short and simply compress the lovely and the messy contradictions into such a flat one-size fits all carrying case.

Words can sometimes, in moments of grace, attain the quality of deeds. --Elie Wiesel
